Aerodynamics: RHP Steven Wright Named Final Player of the Week for 2010

Pitcher
Steven Wright is the winner of this week’s Akron Aeros Player of the Week
award, the team announced today. Wright made a spot start and made a relief
appearance in the last week.

Wright
went 1-1 on the week, though the loss was undeserved. Wright took the loss in
his first start since May 29 on Saturday night against Erie. He was magnificent
over five innings, giving up one run on five hits with five strikeouts against
one walk, ending up on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat. His win came in a 10-4
Aeros victory in a relief appearance against Trenton on August 31. Wright gave
up no runs on four hits and three strikeouts in three innings.

The Akron Aeros have awarded their Player of the Week honor to an individual
player every Monday throughout the bulk of the 2010 season. Akron starter Matt Packer
won the award last week, and Wright is the ninth different player to win the
award in the past 11 weeks. This week, the separate Eastern League
Player-Pitcher of the Week Awards went to New Britain’s Joe Benson and
Portland’s Stephen Fife, respectively.

The
Aeros will now turn the page and look ahead to the 2011 season. On behalf of
everyone associated with the Aeros, our deepest and most genuine thanks to all
our fans, sponsors and media partners for a wonderful 2010 season, and a happy
off-season to all. Opening Day 2011 is slated for Thursday, April 7th at 7:05
p.m. at Canal Park against the Binghamton Mets. Starters have not yet been
announced for that contest. Thanks again from everyone at the Akron Aeros. For
more information, please call the Aeros at (330) 253-5151.

Aeros Recap 09/06: Aeros End Season on Good Note

The
Aeros scored seven runs in the seventh inning and ended the season on a high
note with a 9-2 defeat of Erie Monday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park. The win
ended a five-game losing streak and prevented a four-game series sweep. Akron
ends the season 71-71 while the SeaWolves finish 66-76.

Both
teams got on the board in the fourth inning. Center fielder Jordan Henry scored
for the Aeros after third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall singled him in from third
base. Erie answered with a pair of runs

when Bryan Pounds and Billy Nowlin scored on a single by John Murrian.

Akron’s
seventh inning rally started with a bang as catcher Juan Apodaca hit a
three-run home run to left field on a 3-2 pitch that scored first baseman
Miguel Perez and left fielder Lucas Montero. Second baseman Jason Kipnis then
hit a two-RBI single that allowed right fielder Trent Baker and designated
hitter Daniel DeGeorge to cross home plate for a 6-2 Aeros lead. Kipnis
eventually scored, along with Henry who reached on a single, on a Chisenhall
base hit.

Kipnis scored the final run of the
game and season in style with a solo home run for the final 9-2 count.

Reliever Alex Kaminsky (1-0)
earned the win for the Aeros and allowed two hits with two strikeouts and two
walks in three innings of work. Erie starter Anthony Shawler (5-4) took the
loss after he gave up four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and one
walk in six innings pitched.

The win secures the Aeros
sixth-straight season of having a .500 record or better.

afternoon at Jerry Uht Park. The Aeros (70-71) have now lost five straight

The
lone run of the game came when Alden Carrithers scored in the fifth inning.
Carrithers singled to second base and advanced to second on a single by Brandon
Douglas. Brandon Jones doubled in the next at-bat and allowed Carrithers to
score.

Right-handed

Aeros have set a single-season high for most extra inning losses with 10. The
previous record was nine, set in 1997, the first year the Aeros were in Akron.

Aerodynamics

·      The
replay…
The Aeros jumped on top with a run in the second inning when first
baseman Miguel Perez doubled to left-center field and crossed home plate three
batters later on a ground out by left fielder Lucas Montero. Akron built their
lead in the fourth when Montero hit an RBI-single to score Perez again. Erie
responded in the fourth after Brandon Jones scored on a bases-loaded walk and
John Murrian hit a sacrifice fly to score Rawley Bishop to tie the game at 2-2.
The Aeros regained control and separated themselves from the SeaWovles in the
10th. With the bases full, Perez reached first base safely on a
fielding error by Brent Wyatt that allowed catcher Juan Apodaca and third
baseman Lonnie Chisenhall cross home and make the score 4-2. Murrian then led
off with a solo home run to bring the SeaWolves within one. After Matt Mansilla
singled, Wyatt ended the game with a walk-off home run to right field on a 3-2

recorded his team-leading 39th multiple hit game Saturday with a 3-4
performance. It’s the eighth time this season the San Diefo, Calif. native has
had three hits in a game. Drennen also had two doubles in the game and tied the

Miguel Perez recorded the Aeros only two RBI Friday night. The Caracas,
Venezuelan native went 2-4 on the night to bring his batting average up to a
current roster team-leading .357 average when facing the SeaWolves. The highest
batting average this year against Erie belongs to outfielder Jerad Head, who
was transferred to Columbus once again earlier in the week. Head’s batting
average against Erie was .419.

·
Opposite September… The Aeros went a
perfect 7-0 in the month of September in to finish the regular season in 2009.
So far, Akron is still looking for their first win in the month. The team is
now 49-27 in regular season games played in September.

·
Breaking even… Akron has never been this
close to .500 this late in the season since 1999 when the team finished 69-71.
The team did finish 71-71 in 1996 when the franchise was the Canton-Akron
Indians.

Aeros Recap 09/04: Aeros Lose in Extra Frames Again

Akron gave up a two-run lead in extra innings on a pair of home runs to fall to
Erie 5-4 on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park. The Aeros (70-70) are now 1-10 in

straight loss.

The
Aeros jumped on top with a run in the second inning when first baseman Miguel
Perez doubled to left-center field and crossed home plate three batters later
on a ground out by left fielder Lucas Montero. Akron built their lead in the
fourth when Montero hit an RBI-single to score Perez again.

Game #140 · Saturday, September 4, 2010 · 7:05 P.M.
Away Game #69 · Jerry Uht Park · Erie, PA

Akron Aeros (70-69) at Erie SeaWolves (64-75)
Cleveland
Indians             Detroit Tigers

Aeros Stat of the Day:

·    The
Aeros were eliminated from the post-season on Friday. It is the first time
since 2004 that Akron will not be in the playoffs and second time since 2001.

Aerodynamics

·      The
replay…
The SeaWolves scored first in the opening inning when Rawley Bishop
hit a sacrifice fly to score Brandon Douglas. Erie eventually made the score
2-0 as Douglas walked and then scored on a double by Brandon Jones. Erie broke
the game open in the sixth with a seven-run outburst to deflate the Aeros. The
SeaWolves scored the first two runs of the rally on a two-RBI single up the
middle by Kyle Peter that scored Billy Nowlin and Deik Scram. Brent Wyatt soon
followed that up with a three-run home run to make the score 7-0. Bishop hit in
the final two runs of the frame with a single to right center that scored
Douglas and Matt Mansilla. Akron eventually got on the board when third baseman
Lonnie Chisenhall tripled to right field before scoring on a throwing error by
Douglas in the seventh to set the score at 9-1. However, Erie would get the run
back in the eighth when Douglas scored on a Bishop ground out. The Aeros did
not go down easy as they put together a rally in the ninth as first baseman
Miguel Perez scored on another throwing error by Douglas. Shortstop Ron Rivas
highlighted the inning with a three-run home run to right field to make the
score 10-5, but that would be the closest Akron would get.

·
Déjà vu… Left-handed starter Scott Barnes
to fall to 6-11 after he gave up five runs on five hits with eight strikeouts
against four walks in 5.2 innings pitched. Duane Below earned the win to
improve to 7-12 with one run on two hits with four strikeouts and one walk over
6.1 innings. The same two pitchers faced off last week at Canal Park resulting
in the same decision with a loss for Barnes and a win for Below.

·
Chill… Chisenhall collected his 32nd
multi-hit game of the season Friday night. That puts the Newport, N.C. native
third on the active roster behind outfielder John Drennen with 38 and
outfielder Tim Fedroff with 33.

·
Riveting Rivas… Rivas collected his first
hit with the Aeros and Double-A level with his three-run home run. It’s only
his fifth professional career home run and first since June 20 while in Lake
County.

·
Down under… Outfielder Trent Baker also
recorded his first hit with the Aeros and Double-A level with a double against
Erie. The Brisbane, Australia native also scored a run.

·
Above water… The Aeros still win to
secure a .500 season. Akron hasn’t had a losing season since 2004, the last
time they missed the post season, when they finished 63-78.
